If furniture could talk

I am there for you after a long day at work. I am there for you on the weekends, when all you want to do is plop yourself down and let the television wash over you. I am there for you when you rent a DVD to help turn your living room into the most comfortable theater around. I am even there for husbands who are unexpectedly expelled from the comfort of their beds by an angry wife. I’m your sofa, and I’m always there for you. I’m probably the most underappreciated piece of furniture most of you own, yet also the most used. I am as reliable as a best friend and as consistent as the sunrise.

Choosing a new sofa can be as agonizing as choosing a new car. What kind of upholstery do I want? What color? Any special features? Am I going to like it a year from now, how about five years? Once I’m brought home and put in my assigned place, though, I’m all but forgotten. I become a fixture in your living room almost instantaneously, effortlessly blending in with my surroundings like a chameleon. I can eventually become an unofficial member of a family, a step below the dog and cat, but definitely above the goldfish.

I silently and steadfastly endure a ton of abuse. From spills to crumbs to pet hair, and anything else you can imagine, I sit there and take it. Scotch Guard or no, I do my best to repel every wine and soda spill and of course, every leaky diaper. I’m also often vilified for doing nothing more than keeping valuables safe and sound. You accuse me of “eating” items such as earrings, loose change, and, of course, remote controls. This is a definite misnomer as I get plenty of nourishment from the aforementioned food and drink spills. What’s happening here is I’m simply holding on to these items for you until you need them. Kind of like the safety deposit box you never knew about.

I require no thanks or fanfare for my loyalty and dependability. All I ask is that you try not to sit on my arms and that you please change any diapers on the carpet. You could probably mix in a salad and skip dessert every now and again too. That’s just me looking out for your health, though. Also, please don’t send me away to your teenager’s apartment when you’re done with me. I deserve a more dignified retirement than that; I’ll take my chances at the Goodwill.

How to decorate your home when you move to Florida

How to provide a feeling of a large room to a small room

* You have to pick a gentle colors. Light colors make a small space seem larger. Painting the walls in a light bright color with the ceiling in a white finish makes the room feel much spacy and bright. Another trick is painting 3 of the walls using same color with the fourth in a slightly darker shade of the same color.

* Do not super-size your furniture. Bigger sofas and chairs crowd a small space. For a roomier and spacey appearance, choose a few elegant pieces that are functional and attractive. Contemporary furniture, with its simple clean lines, minimizes the feel of a crowded room.

* Create open space. If you can see far into a room, it seems bigger. Arrange furniture so it does not block views to windows and doors. Modern furniture, stools, glass coffee tabales, and ottomans are great because they do not obstruct views.

* Add sparkle with mirrors. Reflective surfaces extend space and make a room feel more bigger. An oversized mirror on the floor leaning against a wall is oftentimes more effective than more traditional placements, consider to place a chrome or steel object near by to get a reflection.

* Recommended to use solid and modern carpets. Contemporary carpets come in a variety of unusual shapes and geometric patterns, perfect for small spaces and odd-shaped corners. A striking carpet can also be the focal point of a room, attracting the eye and eliminating the need for extraneous accessorizing.

* Simplify window treatments. Sheer fabrics are elegant and let the light shine through while adding softness and personality to most spaces. Usually, you cannot go wrong by using colors for curtains and blinds that match the walls.

* Go see-through. Clear glass furniture allows light to pass through a room. Coffee tables and lamp tables with clear glass will give you extra surface space but wont make a room look cluttered.

* Let there be light. Dark rooms feel crowded, so make sure that natural light is not obstructed (a mirror can help reflect light from a nearby window). If the room does not get enough natural light, consider adding lighting that does not take up excess surface space. Track lighting, cove lights and bookshelf lights are just a few of the modern choices available.

* Store with style. Storage options in a small space need not be unattractive. There are a variety of contemporary storage baskets, bins and folders that will help keep you organized with style. If all else fails, an interesting room divider will help hide any clutter.

What is the difference between a Sofa and a Chaise

The sectional sofa is the type of sofa that is formed from typically 2 to 4 sections and usually has at least two pieces joined together at a 90 degree angle or slightly greater. Like other sofas, the sectional can also be cushioned or not. The sectional sofa is ideal for bigger houses. It can be in your living room, family room or music room where more people gather together. It is best to buy a sectional sofa if you often have visitors coming to your home or when you just like to lie down and stretch as you watch TV or read a book.

The term couch came from the French word “se coucher” which means to go to sleep. In the 20th century, the couch referred to a long upholstered seat with one end inclined and high enough to provide a back and head rest. The couch is now more linked to family time or watching television. It is often placed in front of the television or in the family room where the members of the family stay during siesta. This association of the couch to watching television resulted to the term “couch potato” or a person who spends too much time watching TV.

The loveseat is a smaller version of the couch that can comfortably seat two people. The loveseat or love seat is often upholstered but it can also be made of wood or other materials, and can be cushioned or not. The love seat is not only confined inside the house. In cinemas, the two-seater chairs are also called the love seat. The loveseat is ideal for smaller homes or inside the bedroom. It can also be your own private section in the house where you and your loved ones can just sit together have a quiet time, talk or watch television.
